This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good points.. For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple. NOT printed in the Orange County Paper...................

Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help it will get published via cyberspace!

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the
editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people
like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept
this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when
there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the
United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a
long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get
down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made
a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in
good and bad times. They made learning English a primary
rule in their new American households and some even changed
their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their
children a new life and did everything in their power to
help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was
handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws
to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out.
My father fought along side men whose parents had come
straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None
of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought
about what country their parents had come from. They were
Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of
Japan . They were defending the United States of America as
one people.

When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking
for the French-American or the German American or the Irish
American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we
carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of
those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up
another country's flag and waving it to represent who they
were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had
sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew
what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting
pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by
playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the
entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their
mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American
is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on
Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that
for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future
generations to create a land that has become a beacon for
those legally searching for a better life. I think they
would be appalled that they are being used as an example by
those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on
the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about
dismantling the United States just yet.

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Now perhaps the biggest news of election night on Tuesday is that longtime incumbent Delwin Jones has been unseated by local tea party founder Charles Perry.

Jones was first elected to the Texas House in 1964, you may remember, he left politics for a while in the 70s. But overall, Jones served District 83 for 30 years.

Jones says he was shocked after the early voting totals came in. "Of course you are always surprised but as long as a I have a history of 30 years of successful achievement for these people that have supported me for the West Texas area. I'm proud of it, and I have no regrets and I just look forward to tomorrow," said Jones.

In the first half of this year, the Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau at the Texas Department of Public Safety handled an average of 12,700 applications a month compared to 8,700 during the same period in 2008, a 46 percent increase.

A good percentage of those applicants are from West Texas, particularly from Lubbock and Randall counties. Potter County, which has roughly the same population as Randall County, has a significantly lower number of residents with concealed-gun licenses.

CNN) -- An Israeli patrol boat struck a boat carrying medical volunteers and supplies to Gaza early Tuesday as it attempted to intercept the vessel in the Mediterranean Sea, witnesses and Israeli officials said.

CNN correspondent Karl Penhaul was aboard the 60-foot pleasure boat Dignity when the contact occurred. When the boat later docked in the Lebanese port city of Tyre, severe damage was visible to the forward port side of the boat, and the front left window and part of the roof had collapsed. It was flying the flag of Gibraltar.
The Dignity was carrying crew and 16 passengers -- physicians from Britain, Germany and Cyprus and human rights activists from the Free Gaza Solidarity Movement -- who were trying to reach Gaza through an Israeli blockade of the territory.
Also on board was former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney.

As far as Mrs. McKinney goes, I hace a sign at my restaurant : I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. It does not matter Who you are, OR Who you think you are, OR Who your Daddy is.

Oh No, they " rammed " a boat that was trying to run their blockade.

What does blockade mean ? It means - You can`t go through here.

The " humanitarian vessel " knew they were trying to enter a War Zone. They refused to stop. They were " rammed " 3 times.

Try refusing to stop for a Texas Dept. of Public Safety officer....

Simply, Isreal had every right to stop the other vessel. They were lucky they were not fired upon ! Aid comes After the war is over, NOT during.

Hamas continues to throw rocks and roll burning tires at Israel. AND fire RPGs and missles at innocent women and children.

Israel has finally had enough, and I think, taking the right steps to eliminate the scum of Hamas from their country. That`s right, THEIR country.

Maybe the US could take lessons on how to handle a group that deals us death and misery from within our own borders, ( drug dealers, gangs, corrupt politicians and CEOs, illegal aliens, etc ).

I think it very stupid for someone to think they can win any kind of conflict by covering their face and blowing themselves and some innocent women and children up. Or by launching mortars against someone that has the worlds 4th largest air force.

If GOD gave that land to the Palestines, you sure couldn`t tell it by the way things are turning out.

I have a feeling this map will change quite alot in the near future.

If you'd just gotten a government bailout, you might be tempted to hold a retreat at a nice California hotel -- and that's exactly what American International Group (AIG: 3.51, -0.36, -9.30%) executives did.
The committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a hearing on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time. to address and examine downfall of AIG, the world’s largest insurance company. The committee planned to discuss the financial excesses and regulatory mistakes that led to AIG’s government bailout.
One of the items discussed was AIG’s expenditure of $440,000 for a corporate retreat at the St. Regis Monarch Beach resort in Los Angeles, Calif. These funds were spent on Sept. 22, a week after the Federal Reserve extended an $85 billion emergency loan to AIG to keep it from going bankrupt due to insurance liabilities.

According to the receipt from the St. Regis, the eight-day company retreat was a lavish one -- $139,000 was spent on hotel rooms, while even more money -- $147,301 -- was spent on banquets. Another $23,380 was spent on undisclosed spa treatments and another $6,939 was spent on golf. A full $9,980 was spent on room service and food and cocktails at the hotel lounge.
The St. Regis Monarch Beach resort is described on its Web site as “a landmark resort of legendary proportions.”
Legendary, indeed.

A Little More Help Is ALL We Need !

I thought Sarah Palin did better than expected in last nights debate. On the other hand, Biden ( in true politician fashion ), completely evaded at least 2 questions. Just didn`t answer the question at all.

On another note, Texas Fred and I have been watching our Texas politicians pretty close and frankly we both have been disappointed on the way they voted on the bail out. If you will notice, I have pulled the plug on the John Cornyns link here. In the past I have totally supported Cornyn, but it seems he has been bought off by big business now. In a recent news story from his visit to Lubbock , he compares himself to a fireman putting out a "financial fire". I am a fireman and I tell you that firemen don`t always take the easy way out. They attack the fire head on and then take steps to insure that it does not rekindle. They take the risk and take the heat and when they are through, there is no fire. Bail Out is like throwing a bunch of wood on a fire and then saying, I don`t see any more fire, it`s OK.

One thing both debaters agreed on last night is... This is probably the most important election you will ever vote on.

Once upon a time, Satan was having a garage sale. There, standing in little groups were all of his bright, shiny trinkets. Here were tools that make it easy to tear others down for use as stepping-stones. And over there were some lenses for magnifying ones own importance, which, if you looked through them the other way, you could also use to belittle others, or even one's self. Against the wall was the usual assortment of gardening implements guaranteed to help your pride grow by leaps and bounds: the rake of scorn, the shovel of jealousy for digging a pit for your neighbor, the tools of gossip and backbiting, of selfishness and apathy. All of these were pleasing to the eye and came complete with fabulous promises and guarantees of prosperity. Prices, of course, were steep; but not to worry! Free credit was extended to one and all. "Take it home, use it, and you won't have to pay until later!" old Satan cried, as he hawked his wares. The visitor, as he browsed, noticed two well-worn, non-descript tools standing in one corner. Not being nearly as tempting as the other items, he found it curious that these two tools had price tags higher than any other. When he asked why, Satan just laughed and said, "Well, that's because I use them so much. If they weren't so plain looking, people might see them for what they were." Satan pointed to the two tools, saying, "You see, that one's Doubt and that one's Discouragement -- and those will work when nothing else will."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California on Friday became the first state to ban trans fats from restaurant food, following several cities and major fast-food chains in erasing the notorious artery-clogger from menus.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation that will ban restaurants and other retail food establishments from using oil, margarine and shortening containing trans fats.
In a statement, Schwarzenegger noted that consuming trans fat is linked to coronary heart disease.
"Today we are taking a strong step toward creating a healthier future for California," he said.
Violations could result in fines of $25 to $1,000. Food items sold in their manufacturers' sealed packaging would be exempt.
New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, Baltimore and Montgomery County, Md., have ordinances banning trans fats, but California is the first state to adopt such a law covering restaurants, said Amy Winterfeld, a health policy analyst for the National Conference of State Legislatures.
California and Oregon already had laws banning trans fats in meals served at schools, she added.
The legislation signed by Schwarzenegger will take effect Jan. 1, 2010, for oil, shortening and margarine used in spreads or for frying. Restaurants could continue using trans fats to deep-fry yeast dough and in cake batter until Jan. 1, 2011.

I read a article the other day about a study of cell phone use. The researchers thought there might be a danger of cell phone use to children in close proximity to people using the phones. Way back, I predicted that the anti-smoking movement was going to set a precedent. Well guess what ...

In a proposal that is stunning in both its ignorance and arrogance, a South Central Los Angeles politician wants to place a moratorium on the construction of new fast food restaurants in her area.
What is unfortunately not nearly as surprising is how Washington Post reporter Karl Vick let some huge, uh, whoppers go by without challenge when he covered this development.
Here how the story, as carried at Boston.com, begins : Citing alarming rates of childhood obesity and a poverty of healthful eating choices, a city councilor is pushing for a moratorium on new fast food restaurants in South-Central Los Angeles.
“Some people will say, ‘Well, people just don’t have to eat it,’ ” said Jan Perry, the Democrat who represents the city’s overwhelmingly African-American and Latino District 9. “But the fact of the matter is, what if you have no other choices?”

A Good Time Was Had By All

All in all, we had a good trip.The weather had muddied the waters closer in. Bay fishing and close in wasn`t that good, but not bad. Never did find the shark. Tried in the bay, outside the jetties, around the oil platforms, and 35 miles out...
I checked out the other boats coming in for a day or two and never did see a Kingfish catch like we got ( 119# ). Red snapper were good for everybody, all week.
Had a blast watching the grandkids reeling in those Kingfish. They put up a good fight.
I highly recommend Capt. Marvin Horner Jr. on the Pelican @ Deepsea Headquarters. I don`t recommend fishing off the La Pesca @ Dolphin Dock and that`s all I will say bout that.
Was not too crowded during the week, but the weekends are bad this time of year.
All in all we caught 274# of fish. Where I come from, that`s a good catch.
I was informed that we are going on a cruise to the Western Carribean next year, so I don`t know if fishing will get put on the agenda or not. Probably not.
If the bottom falls out of this economy, I may be hunting deer and wild hogs next year ( to eat ).

For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever.
The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86

ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the
coast of the Big Island. Father and son went on to complete the race
together.

This country needs more Dads like this, and ALOT less crybabies.

The recent Supreme Court ruling on handguns was out of character for them. That they would do something that was logical and made sense.

Ruling for the first time that the Constitution confers an individual right to gun ownership beyond providing for "a well regulated Militia," as the amendment states. The Constitution does not permit "the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home," Justice Antonin Scalia, the court's arch-conservative, wrote in the majority opinion.

The 1850 United States census was the first federal U.S. census to query about the "nativity" of citizens—where they were born, either in the United States or outside of it—and is thus the first point at which solid statistics become available.
Between 1850 and 1930 about 5 million Germans immigrated to the United States with a peak in the years between 1881 and 1885, when a million Germans left Germany and settled mostly in the Midwest.
Between 1840 and 1930, about 900,000 French Canadians left Canada to emigrate to the United States and settled mainly in New England. Given the French-Canadian population at the time, this was a massive exodus. 13.6 million Americans claimed to have French ancestry in the 1980 census. Indeed, a large proportion of them have ancestors who emigrated from French Canada.
The years 1910 to 1920 were the highpoint of Italian immigration to the United States. Over 2 million Italians immigrated in those few years of a total of 5.3 million who immigrated between 1820 and 1980.

The Great Hall was the large waiting room of Ellis Island. Immigrants waited here for their interviews with legal inspectors after finishing their medical exams. At best, the entire process through Ellis Island took three to five hours. But sometimes problems came up, like family members waiting for a relative to be treated in the hospital ward. Some families stayed for days on Ellis Island, others for weeks, and still others for months.

These immigrants did it the RIGHT way, according to the laws of the land.

Immigration Reform ?? The reform I would like to see is to reform our Judicial system to where if you break the law - you are put in jail. Period. If you break the law trying to enter this country - you will be sent back and NEVER allowed back in , under any circumstances. Period.

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up. Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves. Pass it on. Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department: I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.

A story from a U.S. Soldier somewhere in Afghanistan"So we are up in the mountains at about 0100 hrs looking for a bad guy that we thought was in the area. There are ten of us, pitch black, crystal clear night, about 25 degrees. We know there are bad guys in the area; a few shots have been fired but no big deal. We decide that we need air cover and the only thing in the area is a solo B-1 bomber. He flies around at about 20,000 feet and tells us there is nothing in the area.
He then asks if we would like a low level show of force. Stupid question. Of course we tell him yes.
The controller who is attached to the team then is heard talking to the pilot. Pilot asks if we want it subsonic or supersonic. Very stupid question.
Pilot advises he is twenty miles out and stand by. The controller gets us all sitting down in a line and points out the proper location. You have to picture this. Pitch black, ten killers sitting down, dead quiet and overlooking this about 30 mile long valley. All of a sudden, way out (below our level) you see a set of four 200' white flames coming at us. The controller says, "Ah-- guys-- you might want to plug your ears".
Faster than you can think a B-1, supersonic, 1000' over our heads, blasts the sound barrier and it feels like God just hit you in the head with a hammer. He then stands it straight up with 4 white trails of flame coming out and disappears."
Cost of gas for that: Probably $50,000 Hearing damage: For certain Bunch of Taliban thinking twice about shooting at us: Priceless Have a nice day from the good 'ol USA!

I really don`t understand this. So, you get a " rash " and you`re "upset " that you`re in jail... so, they let you go home ???
I guess you get as much JUSTICE as you can afford.

After serving only three full days behind bars, Paris Hilton was released from jail early Thursday, partly due to "medical" reasons — but she has been fitted with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and must remain confined to her Hollywood Hills home for 40 days.
"I can't specifically talk about the medical situation other than to say that, yes, it played a part in this," sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said at a press conference Thursday morning, adding that her electronic monitoring device has a range of 3,000 feet to 4,000 feet.
Hilton's home measures 2,700 square feet, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Sources close to the Hilton family told "Entertainment Tonight" that the medical reason was a rash she developed on her body.
According to People magazine, Hilton was having trouble behind bars.

My solution for the war on terrorism. Hit them where it hurts. In the pocketbook.
Money is power, power is money.
Almost everyday, I stand outside my workplace grabbing a quick smoke, and I watch the components of these giant wind chargers being trucked down the highway... and I think, what a novel idea... tell them to keep their oil.
Within 90 days, their ambassadors would be standing on the Whitehouse steps begging for a handout.
We should be putting all our resources into developing alternative fuels. We have enough fossil fuels in reserve to carry us while we make the transition.
My Dad always said " There is more than one way to skin a cat ". ( I never knew of him skinning a cat, but you get the idea ).
An added bonus feature would be... it would also change the political circus in DC drastically... just try to imagine that...
I`m SICK to DEATH of all the BS going on up there right now. Instead of really trying to find a solution, they are ALL bickering like a bunch of 3 rd graders...
Maybe changing the oil/money/power senerio would also change some faces and some ways of thinking in Washington DC.

Democrat Traffic Plan

After a very UNFRUITFUL trip to Las Vegas, I have returned to the real world. I really have to find a less expensive pastime. My advise to you is, if you are going to gamble... stay off the strip. Go downtown or one of the casinos off the beaten path. The casinos on the strip must have tightened the screws on their slots. I didn`t see hardly anyone winning. Carrot Top was @ the Luxor, where we were staying. Gag.The airport has done away with it`s smoking room. The restaurants have adopted no smoking rules. The '' package'' cost almost $ 1000 for 4 nights/5 days. 2 Xs what it cost 4-5 years ago. ( Why do people take their kids to a place like Las Vegas ? ) Airport was packed @ 8 am Fri. 40 minutes to clear security. This is vacation ??? I`m not saying I won`t go back... but... probably not. I`m thinking deepsea fishing in the Gulf this fall.
It is the day before Easter and we have about 4 inches of snow on the ground. No fruit this year.

Aye, it`s a wee bit early, but I didn`t want it to slip by. Happy St. Patricks Day.
My dear mother was a Fitzgerald so I suppose I have some Irish roots. Anyway.. I`ve always blamed my short temper on this. And my likin for the barley pop.
I live only a couple of hours from Shamrock, Texas. My family settled there in the late 1800`s. I can tell you... there will be some green beer drank in Shamrock tomorrow. Alas, I will not be able to attend. Dr. appointment in Lubbock today, and work Sat.
So , remember, ole St. Paddy was the one who drove all the snakes from Ireland. ( too bad we can`t find some one like this to do something about all the bleeding heart crybabies in DC).

Well, I`m out of here for a week. I have ISO auditor training @ corporate all next week. Quality Control meetings all day Mon. Then ISO Tues. Wed. and Thurs.
International Standards Organization. You can Google ISO if you`re interested. I can`t imagine you would be. Although, almost everything you bought last year was probably affected by ISO in one fashion or another.
Evidently whoever makes commode handles is not regulated by ISO. I have had to replace 2 this week. How do you wear out a commode handle ? Don`t answer that.
One bad thing is , I have to leave Sunday evening right in the middle of the Daytona 500. I`m driving down to Dallas, so, I can listen to the rest of it on Sirius.
Oh, on the NASCAR cheating saga. There is a saying in the world of sports car racing..." If you ain`t cheatin, you ain`t trying ". I know NASCAR has a responsibility to keep these cars as " even " as possible. But some of the penalties did not fit the infractions.

I believe the Grammys has nothing to do with talent anymore. It seems , it is some sort of political forum. Which way does it swing... hahahaha.
This whole Grammy thing was an attempt to bring back their notoriety and restore their track to fame and $$$$.
Too bad, girls, Lubbock, Texas isn`t buying it. And the rest of AMERICA is slow to forget what you said too.
The local radio stations are still not playing their '' stuff ''.
Maybe they could make a new start in Iran or Sryia or somewhere.

I started to comment on the William Arkin hoopla, but you can check it out for yourself over at Michelle Malkins blog, or the Washington Post web site ( for an almost retraction ). But I decided not to waste my time on Arkin. After all, this IS America, and he does have a right to make and ass of himself.

Cut and Run ??

There is a price to be paid for freedom. I am sorry, there is just no way of getting around this. Freedom does NOT just happen. It does not exist just because you want it to , or because you have always had it. If, in the past, someone had not taken action, you would not be living in a free society today.
I knew after Bush's post 9-11 announcement , that although resolve was strong then, it would wane and the people would lose their stomach for what was to come. GW said then, that it would not be easy nor quick. He made no bones about it.
I have a friend who has done 2 tours in Iraq, and is going back in the near future. He will tell you that the mainstream Iraqi people do, indeed, want us there to help restore their country. They realize that America is their only hope at this point. If not for our presence, the radical Muslims would soon control this part of the world, and sooner or later, they would have to be dealt with. Waiting for them to gain even more power would spell doom for your way of life as you know it now.
This man has been there and has first hand knowledge of the situation. I believe what he tells me and have no reason to believe anything else.
I would challenge you to find some one that has been there and ask them what the real story is. Don`t take the MSM`s word for it. Find out for yourself what the real truth about Iraq is. Remember, the MSM has political and financial agendas.
These are hard times, with hard decisions to be made. War is not cool, war is not easy, war is not convenient, war is not a pleasant thing. War is Hell. It is the price that must be paid.
You cannot win a war if you cut and run.

Hillary announced her plans to run for President. Not a big suprise to me.
She wants a dialog with the American people ???
Although she does not want to short change our servicemen and women, she does want to abandon the Iraqi people and pull out. In other words, the great price we have paid in human lives, would be for naught.
I could go on and on...
I would hope the Democrats could do better than this.

A memorial to celebrate the life of Benny Parsons will be held Friday, January 19th Grace Covenant Church in Cornelius, NC.

Family, close friends and beloved members of the racing community who knew and loved Benny will be received in the 2:00pm service.

2006 / 2007

2006 has come and gone. So has Saddam Hussein. The Chupacabra got away. Emory was born ( our last grandchild, they say ). My dreams of becoming a professional tourist have been put on hold due to budget cuts. Crazy Dan got married and was assimilated. Barney died. And we are still in Iraq.
You don`t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that Iraq has turned into civil war. Does the word Bosnia mean anything to you ? I say we have achieved our objective, and now it is time to move on. Let the Iraqi people work out their own government and way of life. If this does not happen soon.. I am going to assume , our politicians have a hidden agenda. Imagine that.
2006 had some tough times and some good times. Mellane and I laugh and joke that our life has never been boring or dull. I look foward to 2007.

We knew this was coming, but I guess until you see it with your own eyes... you think, well , maybe something will change..

I don`t think NASCAR fans are ready for this. I am willing to bet, driver introductions at the first few races will be embarassing for the drivers of these cars.

Traditionally, NASCAR fans are the most loyal ( to sponsers ), in the world of sports. Till now , that is...

Too bad the #3 isn`t still around to put these guys into the wall..
